Frank Lloyd Wright!! I love him.

THE WOMEN

We have literally a thousand books in our house. Mr. Philosophy reads a lot of books; he averages  2 or 3 books a week, including books on CD. Me …. I try to read 2 or 3 books in a year… ha ha ha the joke’s on me… Anyway he handed me this book “The Women”, a novel by T. C. Boyle, he said,  “It’s about Frank Lloyd Wright’s adult life arranged in segments by the four women he loved.  Since you are an admirer of Frank Lloyd Wright, maybe this is not your book but it will give you plenty of thinking.”

Frank Lloyd Wright!!  I love him. Any one who loves architecture loves his artistry and vision. He was a world-renowned architect who designed some of the 20th century’s grandest structures.

In an introductory passage of the book Tadashi Sato, a (fictional) Japanese architectural student before he meet Mr. Wright, he explains, how he felt …

“…Could anyone blame me for being more than a little anxious? I felt like a freshman coming to campus for the first time, wondering where he was going to sleep, what he would eat, …unconsciously, I began to increase my speed, the wind seizing my hair, the scarf slapping at my shoulder like a wet towel … “

and when he meet him… “I was just stepping out of the car, pulling off my (sweat- soaked) gloves preparatory to unknotting the scarf, when a figure emerged from one of the garage stalls …. it took me a moment … before I realized, my pulse pounding all over again, that I was in the presence of the Master himself. I bowed. Deeply. As deeply as I’d ever bowed to anyone in my life….”

Wow Wow Wow . Great explanation. So here is my question: have you ever felt like this when you met someone?

I will tell you this:
The first time I overlooked the Pacific Ocean around Redondo Beach located in Los Angeles County, my heart beat, when I saw that big body of water. I cried - but they were tears of joy and I bowed. Deeply. As deeply as I’d ever bowed to any[thing in my life….

The first time I visited The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, I walked up to each painting and sculpture,.. I bowed. Deeply. As deeply as I’d ever bowed to any[thing] in my life….

The first time my husband took me to the Orange County Performing Arts Center to see Swan Lake, Oh! Lord have mercy on me, for the orchestra, for the ballet, for the music of
Tchaikovsky, I bowed, ….

I still feel emotion when I’m in the presence of beauty. Life is full of beauty and it is easy to bow for it.

I do admire Frank Lloyd Wright, the startling originality of his concepts! If I met him before he died I would probably have fainted! Even though I’m not someone who faints easily.

What would you do? Would any personage or place that you know of touch you so deeply that you would feel a sweep of emotion akin to bowing?

  1. Oh sweet Berry,

You write with such passion and depth, I enjoy reading your posts. As for your question, I cant say i've felt that emotional meeting someone. Maybe a bit of bowing to someone like when I met William Krisel in Palm Springs, There has been instances in my life when that would be the case, but not so great that I would even remember it. I have felt that with places I've visited, such as my first time in Paris, or Barcelona, or the Prado museum. So I guess that means yes. Ill think about it some more.

  2. Dear Berry, like the other person comented, you wrote in depth and passion that makes me very happy. Yes, there were many places that I visited and felt and touched deeply. As you know, I toured many places in Europe. The ones that stood out were Salsburg in Australia ...where they film the sound of the music, the home of the great Mozart. Many places that filmed the great classical movies and so on. I said, wow I am blessed to see places that only been seen in movies. That is been my passion and admiration. For the other question, yes I have met a few people that I admire their work, but not so much bowling.
